Help with Debt – The Importance of Saving First Before You
Pay off Your Credit Card
Are you at a point in your life where you feel you have too
much credit card debt? Well don’t worry because you are not
alone. There are many people that have too much credit card
debt and need help with
debt. While there are many things to consider while you pay
it off, we’ll talk about the importance of saving your money
first.
Before you aggressively pay off any debt, you want to make
sure you have money in the bank. So how much do you save? Some
say save up until you have three months expenses. If you’re a
home owner in New Jersey, you know that’s impossible to
do. Some say save enough for an emergency situation (such as an
appliance replacement), so you have a chance to avoid
increasing your debt. This is more reasonable and doable.
Here’s an example I’d like to share with you. Maybe this
will help put things into perspective. Let’s say you’re a home
owner in anywhere in the north east. If you live there, you
know how cold it gets in the winter.
Let’s say you and your family are sleeping in the middle of
a January evening, minding your own business and then the
furnace just stops working. The repair man comes the next day
and tells you it’s done and you need a new one. Where do you
get the money for a new one? Which is the better option? Having
the cash or increasing your debt?
Only you know the right answer to that question. While we
all don’t have a crystal ball and you can’t anticipate all
problems that can happen in life, a little money in the bank
doesn’t hurt. Sure, it may take longer for you to get started
in paying off your debt. However, you’ll be glad you did.
There's no reason you should be embarrassed
